THE FEELING COMES FIRST

An expressionist
approach to music.

What do you want your music to say?

Here, an expressionist approach means starting with what you feel, then exploring how to bring that feeling into the way you play. A quieter strum, a change in rhythm, or the space between two chords can say a lot.

Chords, technique and a little theory still have a place. They’re introduced naturally when they help you express an idea or play a song you connect with. They support the music, rather than lead the lesson.

You don’t need to know how to explain a feeling perfectly. We can start with a song you love and see where it takes us.

Room to find your sound

Try different ways of playing. Listen to how your choices change the feeling, and grow comfortable making the music your own.

ENCOURAGEMENT THAT STAYS WITH YOU

I believe in you.

In Year 7, Jacob performed Big Jet Plane by Angus & Julia Stone. Afterwards, a teacher told him never to give up playing music.

That encouragement stayed with him. It’s the kind of patience and belief he wants to offer someone finding their own way into music.

There’s no rush to get everything right. Jacob is extremely patient, happy to go over something again, and interested in what helps each person feel comfortable enough to try.

CHILDREN, TEENS & ADULTS

A little confidence
goes a long way.

Everyone begins somewhere. These lessons are for people starting out on guitar, building their first skills, or returning to an interest they’d like to explore again.

For children, the first step is helping them feel at ease. Parents and carers can stay, join in, and talk with Jacob beforehand about their child’s interests, confidence and how they like to learn.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

A few first questions.

Do I need any experience?

No. Lessons are designed for beginners and early learners, including people coming back to guitar after time away.

Will I learn chords and music theory?

Yes, when they help you play and express yourself. Chords, timing, technique and useful theory are woven into the music, without making formal theory study the focus.

Can a parent or carer stay?

Yes. Parents and carers are welcome to stay, participate and discuss their child’s needs with Jacob before a lesson.

Where do lessons happen?

Jacob travels to students’ homes on the Gold Coast. Include your suburb and preferred times when you enquire so availability and travel can be discussed.

Do I need my own guitar?

Having your own guitar is ideal, especially for playing between lessons, but you don’t need one to get started. Jacob can supply a guitar for your lesson. Let him know when you enquire so he can bring one along.
